Re: Early extension (late)

  By: Tyler F on April 4, 2021, 10:16 a.m.

Hey Ed,

Question 1 - The follow-through arm bend could be something to monitor. But keep in mind that its part of your overall pattern. Your clubface is in a pretty strong position, especially for how closed your chest is at the same point. And fr…

Re: Distance wedge shanks

  By: Tyler F on March 13, 2021, 9:49 a.m.

There are a couple of ways to approach the shank. From a skill standpoint, you are swinging the weight of the club too far away from you. Sometimes, all you need is a little block or tees in the way to recalibrate. Try these to improve the skill.

Re: Golf Analysis Software

  By: Tyler F on March 8, 2021, 11:02 a.m.

I use Hudl on my phone with my students, and I use Analyzr on my apple laptop when doing video analysis or showing swing examples. I like Analyzr. It does everything I need it too and it has a good enough search function that I can find the clips I …

Re: Bowed wrist at impact leading to back problems?

  By: Tyler F on March 8, 2021, 10:57 a.m.

I haven't seen a connection between a bowed wrist and back problems. Playing devil's advocate. Most pros are way more open than amateurs. If the argument that more rotation and side bend caused back problems, then very few amateurs should have back …

Lead arm bend graph examples

  By: Tyler F on March 8, 2021, 10:48 a.m.

Here are a few images of the lead arm bend graph that I'll share with students. They show the common pattern and timing of the lead arm bending and straightening. The first one is an amateur, showing the arm bending through impact. The last three ar…

Re: Too low and left with knee buckle?

  By: Tyler F on Feb. 22, 2021, 7:49 p.m.

Here's an image taken from a program I'm working on for helping you guys analyze your own swing. And I added a version of your picture with some lines. Notice in my image, you can see some of my left arm and the right forearm is more in line with th…

Re: Flyt Golf Sleeve Training Aid

  By: Tyler F on Feb. 22, 2021, 7:22 p.m.

Hi B,

I have seen ads for the Flyt, but I haven't seen it in person. I think it could have some merit. I'll be updating the wedge section a bit here this year. But one of my themes for good wedge play is maintaining a pretty constant radius. Some …

Re: Gary Player - two fingers

  By: Tyler F on Feb. 18, 2021, 8:14 p.m.

Really entertaining video. That said, I don't know if there would be a strong correlation between that strength and distance (or golf swing quality). For what it's worth, I can't do it, and I can approach 115 CHS right now 🤷🏻‍♂️

Re: Arms/release informing the body.

  By: Tyler F on Feb. 12, 2021, 11:20 a.m.

Thanks for sharing the story. It's a hard sell early on. Many golfers think the arms just happen naturally. The phrase I use a lot; "The arms can only work as well as the body, and the body can only work as well as the arms". In general, I find that…

Re: Too low and left with knee buckle?

  By: Tyler F on Feb. 12, 2021, 11:15 a.m.

That low left exit can come from either:
Too much forward flexion (not you)
Too much lead arm internal rotation (possibly - worth exploring)
Too much trail wrist flexion instead of pronation (probably part of your issue)
Too little ulnar deviation (…

Re: right arm bend at impact.

Glad you appreciated the video. I figure that eventually, it will be rare that I haven't filmed a video answering a golfers question. Until then, feel free to keep asking!

Re: 4 Angles what do you see ?

  By: Tyler F on Feb. 7, 2021, 9:34 a.m.

If your main goal is improving the 2-way miss, I would probably work on a little bit better connection in the shoulders. It looks like they rotate a good bit down at impact.

With a month to get ready, I would look at the courses I'm playing to see…

Re: right arm bend at impact.

No worries. I cheat on me sometimes too ;) My goal with the site is to help you all learn how to be your own coach. So if you look at other stuff, I want you to know how to think about it critically. Who does it apply to? What else has to happen for…

Re: Pull Down in Transition

  By: Tyler F on Feb. 7, 2021, 8:33 a.m.

I don't think it's really about keeping that trail leg more passive. To me, it looks more like the chest doesn't really turn and the trail arm has more of a throw pattern. So working on drills to feel more of a body hit or upper body sequence drills…

Re: Releasing radial deviation early and its effects on speed

  By: Tyler F on Feb. 7, 2021, 8:26 a.m.

I haven't seen data, but my guess is very little. I think there would be a much bigger correlation between releasing the trail wrist extension and speed. I often see amateurs keep radial as long as pros, but rarely do they have the right trail wrist…
