I'm working on some content organization and an easier way to identify what to work on to improve your game. If your primary goal is to improve your score, then I'd use the following framework. (more details of this coming in the near future…

Re: Best Training Aids

+Nick W I've yet to see a training aid that I didn't modify in some way with each student. While I think that training aids can be helpful, my evaluation of how good or bad they are depends on how well the student adapts their swing after their use,…

You're welcome. Thanks for the suggestions, I'll get back on doing swing analysis in the winter. Working on a content project right now that is taking a lot of focus ;)

Getting useful feedback - Visio Putting

  By: Tyler F on Nov. 17, 2019, 2:19 p.m.

Here's a student learning how to control the face to path relationship with a little visual feedback. The overwhelming majority of putter start line comes from club face position at impact. This student was able to understand why the ball had a tend…

I dont' know the full extent of the injuries and surgeries, so I can't comment on that. But I do think that Bubba's tendency to have the lead foot off the ground puts less at impact. And his foot turn out and hip behind the ankle probably crea…

+Jules C I loved playing executive courses. There was one in southern California that I played often when visiting my brother. It was in great shape with a lot of character and offered a variety of shot options on each hole.

+Frisco P I agree. I had a lot of fun playing shorter courses and learning to attack compared to when I got treated to play championship courses and had to work on my ability to grind. I think that's part of the rationale behind the quote about tour…

+Vasco D There will certainly be outliers, but let's use some stats to back our thoughts.

According to strokes gained a few years ago, 168 yards is where a professional golfer averages the same number of bogeys and birdies. For them, that's typica…

+Lani H There have been a number of studies done that do show a linear relationship between driver distance and handicap. Most of us quote the one presented by trackman.

However, I do agree with your second comment about score vs fun. There are a l…

Re: At what point in the golf swing is the clubhead traveling the fastest?

  By: Tyler F on Oct. 31, 2019, 9 a.m.

+Ed C I'm guessing it would be just past impact instead of at impact.

Re: Bad score avoidance vs aggressive play

  By: Tyler F on Oct. 31, 2019, 8:58 a.m.

+Ed C Anecdotally, I heard a similar story from another tour pro. He found himself thinking, "where would my worst shot go" instead of just looking at where he wanted to hit. By trying to avoid the bad shot consciously it made him look at too wide o…

+Ed C The clubhead speed is almost always fastest at impact for professionals. It can peak a little sooner for ams with a cast pattern, but it's usually acceleration that changes, not speed.
Attached is a typical pro speed profile.
