Re: Lowering / unfolding trail arm to shallow

  By: Tyler F on Dec. 28, 2022, 1:47 p.m.

Looks like the arms are in a good shallow position. So I'd keep working on the idea of "hitting it more with the pivot". Even in the rehearsal in the DTL, the lower body didn't move much. So I'd put the focus there.

FYI, for the DTL clip, the yout…

Yes, foam balls are fine for observing the pattern, not as good for training it, but for identifying it's fine.

Here's the starter point for the single-arm releases https://www.golfsmartacademy.com/golf-instruction/single-arm-releases-with-a-club/

Hi Philip,

Thanks for posting your swing and the description. I think we can get a handle on it. The most common cause of the 2 way miss is steep early/shallow late. This often is combined with a flip down at the bottom. The two images that give me…

Re: Starting my self-coaching journey

I think one of your key descriptions, "I think part of my 'power move' came from pulling my arms down even through into impact, which prevented me from properly releasing the club".

I agree, I think that's a very common issue for golfers to overco…

Hey Andrew,

No worries on the long posts. Knowing how you learn is half the battle!

Definitely making progress. I'd be curious to check in on a face on view of one of these shots. But the impact lines are starting to look better. I still think t…

Re: Internal vs External Trail Leg

  By: Tyler F on Nov. 22, 2022, 3:21 a.m.

I think it's helpful to identify WHY the ball is going shorter when making a swing change. Is it from different contact? Slower speed? More loft/spin? etc. If you can't figure that out, that's not the end of the world, but if you know that answer, i…

Greg,

Good seeing you the other week, thanks for posting the update. For those who didn't see it on the "hit my arms" drill page, Greg said, "Hey Tyler, I'm so glad we went through this drill in person [referring to the hit my arms drill]. Why? Man…

Hi Jim,

This is usually a good time of the year to get organized for the off season. If I had to summarize what I'd work on for your swing, it would be trying to get more connection with the shoulder blades. You have more shoulder blade movement at…

Re: 3d vs 2d

  By: Tyler F on Nov. 14, 2022, 2:01 p.m.

William,

I think that's a great question. Simply put, they currently provide different pieces of information, and which one you need more is probably individual. The classic metaphor used is that 2D video is like an x-ray and 3D is like an MRI. If …

The timing is still a little off. Your brain wants to continue moving down into the ball too long. In the screen capture I'm posting, I pause when you should be triggering the up movements. You'll see it's much earlier than you're doing in your rehe…

Tiger once said, "First I understand it better, then it looks better, then it feels better. Then it performs on the range, then on the course, then in a tournament".

It sounds, and looks, like you're understanding it better. Like you said, not 100…

Re: New Member - Swing Post

  By: Tyler F on Oct. 21, 2022, 9:16 a.m.

Hey Kyle,

Welcome to the site! Thanks for posting your swing. I think you're in the right area. It looks like in your delivery position you've got the arms behind the body. But part of that is because the body (rib cage) is a little bit in the way…

Welcome back, Andrew.

I agree that it's a tough habit to break for some patterns. But it can pretty transformative too. One of the complimentary patterns to the arm stuff you're working on (internal rotation and ulnar deviation) is more of a compo…

Hi Scott,

I like the thought process. You're thinking through the problem correctly. Looking at the down-the-line snapshot looks like the face is open near shaft parallel, so some motorcycle could help (pic one).

2 other factors to consider for …

Re: Choking up on the club

  By: Tyler F on Oct. 15, 2022, 5:22 a.m.

In theory, yes. Choking up on the club should influence distance.

In most sets, the difference between two clubs is about 4 degrees of loft and a half inch of length. If you look at the speed chart below, you'll see that pros swing the irons about…
