Re: Poor finesse wedge ball contact

  By: Tyler F on Jan. 24, 2023, 8:14 a.m.

In my experience, the ball sliding up the face usually comes from too much axis tilt and the rib cage staying in flexion too long. This usually creates low point issues and shaft lean/trajectory issues.

The tricky thing with your question is handl…

Member question about hip turn and bracing

  By: Tyler F on Jan. 22, 2023, 10:39 a.m.

I had a question come in from a member that I wanted to share. He said:

"I’m trying very hard to understand the relationship between hip turn and posting on the left leg. Does posting end the hip turn? Sequencing the two? How does too much hip moti…

Re: Trail shoulder goes internal?

  By: Tyler F on Jan. 22, 2023, 10:31 a.m.

Hi Guy,

I've been involved in some chats with people from different systems, so here's a quick summary of this video:

The creator of the GEARS system states that his software does not at the moment report internal or external rotation. So the dat…

Re: Trail shoulder goes internal?

  By: Tyler F on Jan. 20, 2023, 7:47 a.m.

Here's some actual data showing the external rotation from a couple of other systems. I'll discuss this and other issues in the video deeper in my next coaches certification call at the end of the month.

But here's the responses I posted on Facebo…

Re: Trail shoulder goes internal?

  By: Tyler F on Jan. 19, 2023, 7:38 p.m.

I'm digging into it deeper. I found some data from Dr. Rob Neal's system as well as another golf coach who has external rotation built into his AMM parameters. Both of them show the trail arm going into external rotation during transition. So I'm tr…

I'd be curious to see more of Mark Bull's data as well. I'm pretty sure he uses a Polhemus system (AMM), which has advantages and drawbacks. Depending on how the system defined top of the swing, I actually wouldn't be that surprised if the shoulder…

Hey Guy,

Thanks for sharing. Unfortunately, they didn't really address any of the key questions with that video. We still don't know how they are calculating the different shoulder movements. Their definition of shallow vs steep isn't a metric eith…

Re: New Member - Swing Video

Hey Trevor,

I hope the yoga block is helping you build some clubhead awareness. One thing to watch out for is in the video you posted, you rotated your body a lot less (see image). So you want to make sure you're still using your body, but avoidin…

Re: Losing balance at finish with driver

  By: Tyler F on Jan. 9, 2023, 1:14 p.m.

The loss of balance can be part of a chain reaction. That's why taking on a new issue can seem daunting at first. If it were me, I'd start by understanding my follow-through position better. What would it feel like to get weight over the lead foot, …

Hi Gene,

Happy New Year to you too!

Thanks for the kind words. I'm humbled anytime I hear that my creative outlet has helped golfers like yourself understand and improve.

To your main question, chasing aesthetics can be a dangerous game. That sa…

Re: Cannot control torso power

  By: Tyler F on Jan. 2, 2023, 8:03 p.m.

I think the shoulder patterns will improve with the single arm drills, especially the lead arm. A bit part of their beauty is that they train the shoulders to work better with the body.

But if you wanted more details to it, I don't think any of th…

Hey Trevor,

Happy New Year!

I always enjoy a good puzzle. Heel contact can sometimes be a frustrating challenge. But let's talk through it.

If you set up on the sweet spot and then end up striking the ground on the heel it means that something h…

Re: Losing 7mph with bowed wrist

  By: Tyler F on Jan. 2, 2023, 7:17 p.m.

Hi Joseph,

The pictures do show a shorter swing when you feel like you bow your wrist (in reality, I'd say it's more neutral than bowed :)

I'd say it's more likely the shorter swing that's causing the loss of distance. Usually, you'd get more of…

Hey Philip,

Happy New Year!

Looking at these two images, it looks like the hack motion numbers match up. One thing to know about the hack motion is that its frame rate isn't that high (I want to say it's 100 or 120 frames per second). So it's poss…

Re: Cannot control torso power

  By: Tyler F on Dec. 28, 2022, 1:51 p.m.

Hey Phillip,

Sorry for the holiday delay. Thanks for posting the single arms. The trail arm has more of a flip, but much better body action, the lead arm has more of a pulling action because it leaves behind the body. See how little rotation you ha…
